Candlelight Vigil Held in Thamel for Victims of Gen-G Protests

Kathmandu: A candlelight vigil was held in Thamel, Kathmandu’s main tourist hub, in memory of those who lost their lives during the Gen-G protests on Bhadra 23 and 24.

The event, organized by Thamel’s night traders, took place at Nursing Chowk and included a condolence meeting. Vice-Chairman of the Thamel Tourism Development Council, Sahadev Dhamala, paid tribute to the victims and expressed condolences to the bereaved families. A minute of silence was observed in honor of those who died.

Tribute at Buddhist Stupa

A separate tribute was paid at a Buddhist stupa in Thamel, where candles were lit, and prayers were offered for the speedy recovery of those injured during the protests. Participants gathered peacefully, lighting candles and expressing solidarity with the victims.

According to reports, 51 people have died so far as a result of the protests.

Nightlife Resumes with Caution

Businesses in Thamel, which had remained closed due to the protests, have resumed operations. However, the Thamel Tourism Development Council has urged night businesses to close by 10 p.m. as a precautionary measure to ensure safety and security.
